Maiden Newton to Bridport Railway and the History of Yeovil

I’ve started working on a script about the Maiden Newton to Bridport Railway. I was kindly given some cine film of the journey recently, which is already online:

This is only part of it, as more footage is on the way. I’ve started a script about the line, that ran from Maiden Newton, through Toller, Powerstock, Bridport, Bridport East Street and into West Bay. I have already made a start, with a video about the history of West Bay Station, which you can see on my YouTube Channel. I’ve done some filming there and the Jurassic Coast is stunningly beautiful.

When I was doing the initial filming, I also happened to get some now-and-then shots of West Bay Station. They aren’t perfect, but they are pretty close. Rest assured that I will trying for better ones in the future.

It is so nice to see some of these older stations have kept they charm and still in use today, even if it is not for the railway.

In other news

This morning I collected some standard 8mm cine film from a very nice man in Yeovil called Nick Young. Nick has lived in Yeovil for a number of years and has footage of the town from way back. I’m going to be transferring it all to digital and looking to make a few videos about the history of the Somerset town.

Which that is transfer away, I will be working on the script and editing photos of Maiden Newton to Bridport. As I get more done, I will keep you informed.
